Day 41: An Album A Day - Aerosmith Toys in the Attic

Artist: Aerosmith
Album: Toys in the Attic
Released: 1975
Genre: Classic Rock
Without hesitation, I can confidently say Toys in the Attic is my favourite Aerosmith album. After fifty years of listening to Aerosmith, I still have immense respect for their catalog, and this album stands out as a clear high point for me.
The bass line at the beginning of Sweet Emotion is a visceral intro to a cool groove song that never gets tired, even after 50 years of listening. Toys in the Attic is a high energy rocker worthy of being the title track to the album. The massive hit Walk This Way is an Aerosmith anthem fitting for Steven Tyler to strut his stuff on stage. The album was a commercial breakthrough for Aerosmith staying on the Billboard 200 for 128 weeks and peaking at #11. It was the band's first top 20 album and is certified 9x Platinum making it Aerosmith's best selling album. Clearly I am not alone in picking Toys in the Attic as my favourite.
Despite the praise, I had not listened to this album in a very long time. Part of what I love about our "Album a Day" process is forcing us to listen to every album. My wife has come to appreciate Aerosmith more than she ever has in the past and this album was a big reason why. I'll have this on my regular playlist for a while, along with the other Aerosmith classics from the early 70's.
