My Website Looks Like "Shite"

Here I am creating a site about humanizing tech and relying on Google Gemini to generate images for my posts. They have made this far too easy. I should know how to prompt for better results after all I've read but I'm posting this as is to make a point. AI still generates slop and so do I.

I'm undertaking a redesign of this site. Yes, I only launched this a month ago. My initial inspiration and the will to get this site up and going was built around the motto "Just Start." I spend a large chunk of my IT career in projects seemingly dedicated to not starting. The constant churn of meetings discussing strategy, design, architecture, training, and on and on, while in many cases never launching a product. I swore when I got the control I would never do that again. As an army of one, I don't have the time to argue with myself over palettes, better navigation, and optimizing my site for search engines. This is not to say "I don't play well with others." It is acknowledging that often the extroverts control the flow, and I too often went along with it.

Now, the details are starting to weigh on me and when I look at my site in its current state, I hate it. It's as sloppy as the feature image of this post. So, here I am. Doing website design with artificial intelligence. "Is this human?" In a sense, yes it is! As a human, I need to get shit done. As a somewhat semi-retired freelancer, I need to get shit done as inexpensively as possible. I cannot afford to hire designers, editors, or website administrators to achieve what I want to achieve. AI fills a need; A human need. If I'm being honest, a good designer wouldn't want to take on my small requirements anyway. If they're good, they should be busy with bigger things so it's not like my AI is taking away jobs from a human. In fact, it's giving me the freedom to learn, grow, and get these tasks done on my own, after a career of outsourcing control to everyone else. What a refreshing development this has been.

I will utilize all my expertise in analyzing my needs, managing my time, and leveraging AI to help me to do rest. And nobody is leaning over my shoulder telling me I need approval from 5 different stakeholders to get this done. My website looks like shit, but it will get better and I'll learn a shit-ton in the process. I expect my writing to get better along the way as well. This is the way I always wanted to work, but seldom got the chance. This feels far more human.

NOTE: Things could get uglier before they get better. I fully expect to break things. It's all a part of the learning process.
